Hart Named Distinguished Alumnus by Texas Tech College of Architecture
LUBBOCK, Texas — The College of Architecture at Texas Tech University and TTU Architecture Alumni Association announced this week that Dan Hart, FAIA, PE, of Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, will be honored as the 2017 Distinguished Alumnus on Nov. 9 at the Texas Society of Architects Convention in Austin.
Hart is the first architect to receive this honor while with PSC. The Distinguished Alumni Award identifies Tech graduates who have clearly defined excellence in their profession as well as dedication to the field of architecture.
“Studying architecture and engineering at Texas Tech exploded my conceptions of what was possible in this world. My education there prepared me not just for my chosen profession, but for life—I learned how to think critically and generatively. I’m deeply grateful to Texas Tech for my education and for this honor and to my colleagues at Parkhill who continue to inspire me to build community through our work together.”
Hart brings a unique set of qualities to PSC that few others can match – he holds both an architecture and engineering degree and is licensed in both professions. He has the ability in his work to apply the social sciences, arts and humanities as an architect while also applying the natural sciences and mathematics as an engineer.
Hart has been with Parkhill for 26 years and is a Firm Principal and Director for Higher Education, while serving on the Board of Directors. He is also a dedicated advocate for the profession. Hart has served as President of the Texas Society of Architects, Moderator of The American Institute of Architects Strategic Council (the Institute’s national think tank) and in numerous other efforts advancing architecture in Texas. He was also an adjunct instructor of architectural engineering for senior level architecture students at Texas Tech University.
“This award speaks to Dan’s capabilities and successes as a leader, an architect and engineer at PSC in both his design work, and in years of leadership in professional societies,” said Brian Griggs, AIA, a Principal and architect at PSC and long-time coworker with Hart. “Congratulations to Dan and his family on this esteemed and most-deserved honor!”
