MIDLAND, Texas — The Texas Society of Professional Engineers Permian Basin Chapter honored Kristy Christopher, PE, of Midland with the Young Engineer of the Year award on Feb. 20. The Permian Basin chapter is made up of engineers from 20 counties in Texas.

The honor recognizes Christopher’s technical ability, professional achievements, and civic and humanitarian activities.

“Parkhill, Smith & Cooper is quite proud of Kristy’s recognition as Young Engineer of the Year for the Permian Basin, and we are confident that this is the first of many more accomplishments to come. Kristy is an exceptional engineer,” said Ben Sanchez, Team Leader of the Site Development Planning Sector in the Midland office of PSC.

A licensed professional engineer in Texas, she has worked on the Site and Land Development Team at Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, Inc. in Midland since 2014, and has been project manager since 2018. This has involved technical design on various site and land development projects, including utilities, roadways, parking lots, grading and drainage design. In addition, she has managed the design and construction activities of numerous residential and commercial developments in the West Texas area. By implementing strategies in the workplace to improve workflow and design efficiency, she strives to attain the best quality design for her clients. One example is creating procedures using Civil 3D software for site grading.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University in May 2014. While there, she was on the Dean’s List and graduated Cum Laude. She was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter and Christian Engineering Leaders. She also worked for the Atmospheric Science Department.

Professional affiliations include the Permian Basin Chapters of TSPE and ASCE, where she has held positions as a board member and communications director, respectively.

As well as being recognized as the Young Engineer of the Year at the local level, she will also be a candidate for the state-level award.

Christopher volunteers at First Baptist Church in Midland where she teaches in the children’s ministry.
